About ALS Clinician Alliance for Research, Education, and Support (C.A.R.E.S.)

At ALS C.A.R.E.S., our heart and soul are dedicated to uniting a diverse and passionate community of healthcare professionals—clinicians, researchers, physical therapists, speech therapists, social workers, and beyond. We believe that together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Our mission is to bring people together to collaborate, innovate, and support one another. We know that behind every diagnosis is a person with unique needs and dreams. That’s why we welcome anyone who works with ALS patients to join us in our shared mission. By combining our efforts, we can create a network of hope, understanding, and excellence that truly makes an impact.

At ALS C.A.R.E.S., we’re more than just a community—we’re a family working together to build a brighter future for those living with ALS. Join us in making a difference, one step at a time.

Meet the Founders

Lauren Brown, MSN, AGNP-BC, is a dedicated nurse practitioner who specializes in caring for individuals living with ALS and related conditions. With a background as a nurse coordinator at Providence ALS Center for five years, Lauren brings both experience and empathy to her role as a provider. She works hand-in-hand with the ALS care team and a multidisciplinary group of specialists in rehab, nutrition, pulmonary care, and more, ensuring that patients and their families receive comprehensive support to live well with ALS.

Lauren’s passion for education also led her to create the Providence ALS Bootcamp, an insightful series of educational videos developed in partnership with ALS Northwest. These videos provide valuable guidance to families and caregivers, helping them navigate the unique challenges that may arise as the disease progresses.

Because of her deep commitment to making a difference, Lauren is driven to continue expanding her impact within the ALS community. Her unwavering dedication inspires her to find new ways to uplift and support those affected by ALS, ensuring no one faces this journey alone.

Estephanie Charria, BSN, RN, is a compassionate nurse with a strong commitment to social justice and health equity. For the past three years, she has worked closely with the ALS population as a clinical research coordinator, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide supportive and comprehensive care. Estephanie also served on an ALS advisory board, where she formed meaningful connections with professionals like Lauren.

Her dedication to her patients goes beyond clinical care—witnessing their struggles in obtaining a diagnosis, facing barriers to access, and encountering gaps in provider knowledge has only fueled her passion further. These experiences have motivated Estephanie to be an advocate for her patients, focusing not only on advancing research but also on closing the gaps in care. She remains committed to ensuring every patient receives the respect, dignity, and support they deserve.
